If you are new to the area or you can't get a referral from anyone, you should visit your local hardware store. At the hardware store you will be able to find out a reliable local contractor. Often times, there will be plenty of business cards or even a catalog of names to choose from.
Stick to the original bid
After hiring a contractor be sure to stick to the job and the specifics he bid on. Often times, homeowners will select a bid from a contractor at a certain cost and then add on additional jobs/tasks and not understand why they are paying a higher price.
To be sure to stay within your budget for a certain job, keep your ideas for the next job. If you feel that you can operate within a greater budget, be sure to consult with your contractor about the additional costs for your additional job.
